What Makes ETIAS Not A Visa?

Countries Which Require An ETIAS For Europe
More than 50 eligible countries will be required to submit an online ETIAS application. Meaning, if you are a citizen of one of these countries you can travel to Europe without a visa. Once approved, an ETIAS can be used for a maximum of three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. It’s important to note, those who desire to study and work in Europe or visit for more than 90 days must apply for a visa.

How Does The ETIAS Work?
Travelers need to meet the ETIAS requirements to complete and receive an ETIAS travel authorization successfully. To apply online for the ETIAS, it’s essential that applicants supply a valid passport, an email address, and a debit or credit card to pay the application fee. The ETIAS application requests that travelers complete basic biographic information including full name, date of birth, and country of residency. Towards the end of the application process, there will be a set of security and health questions.

When Will EU ETIAS Be Required?
The European Commission announced that the ETIAS travel authorization system will become officially operational in late 2023. The EU Parliament and Commission will provide the financial support it will take to implement ETIAS and development will start immediately.
When the EU ETIAS travel authorization becomes operational, all citizens from the current visa-free countries mentioned above must submit an ETIAS application before their trip. In the meantime, though, travelers can continue to travel to Europe without travel authorization.
Not having an ETIAS could result in major consequences, including denial of entry to the Schengen member country. Travelers are encouraged to stay updated and understand what’s required when visiting a country of the Schengen Area.
